Beaumont plans to turn Royal Oak shopping center into commercial retail site

Beaumont Health plans to redevelop its 183,000-square-foot Northwood Shopping Center at Woodward Avenue and 13 Mile Road into a commercial retail development, pending approval from the city of Royal Oak.

Kroger, Office Depot, Dunham’s and Leo’s Coney Island are among the tenants that have left the shopping center site.

If Royal Oak approves Beaumont’s preliminary development plans, demolition would begin this fall, after the annual Woodward Dream Cruise in August. A timetable on construction won’t be known until after city approvals, but Beaumont officials said it could begin as early as spring or summer 2017.

A joint venture between Livonia-based Schostak Bros. & Co. Inc. and Bloomfield Hills-based AF Jonna Development LLC has been hired to develop the property, and Beaumont is expected to retain ownership after the construction is completed, Colette Stimmell, Beaumont’s vice president of communications, said in an April interview. A mix of uses at the site is expected.
